Underwater Reflection

This is another image from my Underwater Series.  These  photographs were all taken underwater in swimming pools.

I love to see how the surface of the water distorts and reflects an object from below the surface.  In this image you are viewing the seated subject from below.  As you look up through the surface of the water you see both the reflection of her legs and, above it, the distorted image of her torso, which is above water.

Boat on Crater Lake

When I was in college I inherited my grandfather's old twin-lens camera. He used to use it in the 1950s when he was a photo journalist. Like other simple mechanical devices of its time, it was built to last, and it still works. I love it for the square format photos it takes.

This picture was taken on an unusually calm day in September. It's very rare to see the lake so still.

I offer this one as an 8x8 here, but I have also printed it much larger. It looks really good as a 20x20, and I have a 44x44 that was hanging in a show at Pro Photo Supply that I'm not sure what to do with. Any ideas?

Fine Art Print of Venetian Window (16x24)

One of the best things to do in Venice is to just walk around and look at the buildings. You can see things that you will never see anywhere else: a book store half-flooded from the canal but still open for business; doors and windows hundreds of years old but still sturdy; layers of paint coming off to show layers underneath. Even in the midst of extreme urban decay, Venice is overwhelmingly beautiful.

I have this big print, 16x24, very nicely done on Hahnemuhle Photorag Fine Art paper, just waiting for a home.

Dive (an Underwater Photo)

Speaking of my sister, she was the model for this photograph, Dive.

I shot this on film with an underwater camera. This is the swimming pool of the hotel we sometimes stay at in Mexico, which explains the variegated tiling. The drain in the floor of the pool looks like a navel.
